Beverly Chan

Biography

Originally from Kuching, Sarawak, Beverly is of Chinese, Malay and Iban (native) heritage. She had a very musical upbringing playing the piano, violin and guitar for school events and church. She completed her Diploma in Music (LCM) before moving to Perth, Australia to study Bachelor of Science at The University of Western Australia. After completing her Postgraduate studies in Forensic Science, Beverly decided to return to her primary passion which was music and was studying piano pedagogy under the tutelage of Beate Toyka.

Her portfolio includes writing a music program for the Autism Association of Western Australia (Early Intervention Holiday Program), and assisting in pioneering the music program for Christchurch Grammar School special needs department. Recently, she has been very inspired to promote and educate people on the unique sounds, rhythms and tonality of Sawarak’s ethnic music and instruments. This vision has led to the release of “Sounds of Borneo for Piano”, an original compilation of piano pieces representing 6 different ethnic instruments of Sawarak, Borneo.

In 2021, Beverly completed The Piano Teachers’ Course UK. She is currently studying her Bachelors of Music (Composition and Musicology) through the University of New England (NSW).
